Swiss Hills Innovation Center completed

Posted on: September 25, 2020

The Innovation Center at Swiss Hills Career Center (SHCC) has been completed and is ready for use! Starting this 2020-2021 school year, secondary and adult education students will be able to study technology that supports manufacturing. The goal of this space is to train and certify students in manufacturing technologies, and provide a collaborative space for manufacturers and students.

The space the Innovation Center now occupies was renovated in early 2020. SHCC worked with the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers’ Coalition (AOMC) in meeting with local manufacturers to review technology and workforce needs, and then the AOMC helped provide input on the curriculum and equipment needed for the Innovation Center.

This Center now consists of equipment and technology a student would find on a manufacturing floor, such as an industrial 3D printer, a larger platform laser cutter, computer numerical controlled Mills and Lathes, and more.

The Innovation Center was recently featured in the AOMC monthly newsletter. The Center is described as “an overdue addition to our manufacturing community. This state of the art facility offers training on actual equipment that manufacturers use in modern day manufacturing. This program can serve as a model for other career and technical training facilities in Southeastern Ohio. The scarcity of instructors (and in many regions non-existent) wth a depth of knowledge in manufacturing makes it very difficult to put together a program of this magnitude… Great things are happening at Swiss Hills.”

Swiss Hills is starting a Chemical Operator program of 200 hours on Monday, September 28.
