Business Professionals of America chapter competes in Regional, State, and National competitions

The Business Professionals of America (BPA) competitions looked different for students this year. Previously, the members of Monroe Central’s BPA have traveled to regional, state, and national competitions. Due to the pandemic, however, these competitions have had to be adapted. This year, the competitions were entirely virtual. For non-judged events, that meant submitting the tests online. For judged events, students were judged either via Zoom or a video submission.

This did not stop the eight members of BPA. Led by their advisors Teresa Schuerman and Kayla Ruble, these students competed in a variety of events. At regionals, two teams competed. Almost every student also took on an individual competition. The students showed their skills at regionals, placing top ten in every competition. The Administrative Support team of Stephanie Ogden, Elizabeth Roderick, Lauren Hamilton, and Wesley Christy placed 1st at regionals.

The following students received 1st place at regionals: Regan Hamilton in Desktop Publishing, Wesley Christy in Extemporaneous Speech, Tyler Craig in Computer Network Technology, and Kylie Knowlton in Health Administration Leadership and Special Topics. Kylie also secured herself a 3rd place trophy in Health Administration Leadership and Special Topics. The Administrative Support team placed 7th at state competition.

BPA was nothing like it has been in the past. Through the disappointment of missing out on the trip to Columbus for state (and the annual trip to Buca di Beppo, of course), and the struggles of competing in an entirely new style, all of the students persevered. They all managed to push through it and end with another successful year.
